Yes folks it’s another Ubuntu post (apologies to other distros, I do know you exist) but today sees the release of another great new version of Ubuntu. Ubuntu Studio is out!! I can’t wait to take it for a test drive to see what it’s like. Well… as soon as I put my studio pc back together that is, it’s in bits at the moment 😉
This new version of Ubuntu is built on 7.04 Feisty Fawn and is designed to be ready for media production right out of the box. It sounds like a great idea and a lot of people have worked hard to make it a reality. Personally, I’m a muso so I’m interested in it for an audio recording studio but it also offers different installs for video and graphics editing as well. When booting the install disk the user will be prompted to choose which install they would like audio, graphics or video. In a similar way to Ubuntu Server does now.
Cards on the table. At this point I was gonna go into detail about the different audio components of Ubuntu Studio but then I found this article:
It says everything I wanted to say and probably better than I could do it, so check it out it you’re interested in turning your old PC into a Linux powered media production suite. I’m off to try and find a screwdriver to put my music pc back together and try it out 🙂
I’ll leave you with this tempting screenshot, enjoy:
