Here’s one in the eye for all those who think I’m only interested in Ubuntu Linux 😉
The new version of Fedora was released today so go and check it out. Fedora is the free community distribution from Linux giants Red Hat Inc. It was one of the first distributions I got into using back at the start of my Linux journey, so it will always have a special place in my heart.
You can read the official announcement here
I haven’t had a chance to install it yet myself but I will do and I’ll report back on my findings for you all in the near future. I’ll be interested to see what features have been added and how the distribution has developed, in the past I’ve found using Fedora as my everyday desktop a bit difficult and I miss the convience of apt-get from Debian systems. Fedora does have Yum which is their answer to Apt I suppose but it has never worked as well for me, I’m not sure why. I heard you can get apt working on Fedora but I’ve never really looked into it if I’m honest. I hang my head in shame. The screenshots of Fedora 7 look really nice, they always have great artwork and slick looking interfaces.
Anyway, I will assess it with an open mind and fairness in my heart I promise. In the meantime you can go and get your copy of this great distro now and beat me to the punch, let me know what you think 🙂
