I love Ubuntu blah blah blah. I am running Fedora 9 with no troubles on a Dell D820 laptop. No over heating, sound works better than any other distro I have tried and the fan has never been quieter! I don’t need eye candy and I don’t have the nvidia drivers installed but when I did, they didn’t require me to reboot/reinstall. I find ubuntu’s sound to be in its infancy and does not work for most requirements. Sure you can bit torrent and and IM in ubuntu but fedora 9 packs the power punch when it comes to getting some real work done.

    Cheers

Great review, Not having the nvidia drivers is keeping F9 off my desktop with 8800GTS. Next we want to see an Open SUSE 11 review!

In answer to the first comment. That’s cool I’m glad you like Fedora 9 and I think that’s great. I’m not telling everyone to use Ubuntu read my negative comments about Hardy to see there is no blind fanboyism here. It’s good that the distro works fine for with your hardware, I’m just giving my honest opinion of how this stuff works on MY hardware, which is why people come here. I don’t take sides in these distro wars as they are stupid and a divisive force in an already very small Linux community. We need to work together to help Linux and open source not shout at each other for what distro/window manager/deodorant we use… or don’t use. I respect your opinion, thanks for the comment.

In answer to the second comment, I did a quick review of OpenSuse 11 with KDE4 over on Linux Planet last week. It was a last minute thing and I really need to do a full in depth review soon but in the meantime you can check it out here

    Hope you like it šŸ™‚
