Hello again everyone, welcome to a slightly late Weekly Rewind. I got caught up with other things over the weekend and didn’t get a chance to post. It was quite an eventful week, but a good one. So let’s get into what happened:
On Monday we recorded and streamed Linux Outlaws 105 which I eventually named “Sean’s Sugar Lumps”, if you want to know why you’ll just have to listen to it. We used our Icecast stream for the first time after my problems the previous week, and it all seemed to work very well. People liked the superior sound quality and also the fact that it can be listened to using 100% Free Software, which for a show like ours is obviously very important. I’m glad it was popular and we’ll be pushing that more in the future. The IRC channel was buzzing as normal during the show, it’s nice to get people involved. On Tuesday I edited and worked on the show, getting it to about 70% complete. I then finished the edit on Wednesday and shipped it back to Fab for release that evening, while I went out to Liverpool LUG.
It was a great night at LivLUG and we actually got something productive done, which was even better. We set up some computers for the Liverpool Social Centre where we hold our meets. After some discussion and debate it was decided we should use The Muppets for our naming scheme. These things are vitally important to geeks. We swapped some parts around and then installed Ubuntu on the machines, they are to be used for Internet access. I say “we”, but mostly I just stood around watching and talking. We had about 20 people there and only 3 machines to work on, so we were a bit mob handed but it made for a great atmosphere. We retired to the local Wetherspoons afterwards and had some good fun chatting about Linux, along with many other things. It’s really good to see the LUG so healthy and I hope it continues that way.
On Thursday I worked mostly on my Crunchbang article and also caught up with other work. I also posted the Arch pen to our competition winner, and threw in a Red Hat pen for good measure. I hope they enjoy it. You can see a pic of the package to the left. I know I did a lot of other stuff on Thursday and Friday but I’m damned if I can remember it now. On Saturday it was my mum’s 60th birthday, so we had a surprise party at the local pub in the evening. I even ended up doing a bit of a gig with the guitar, which was fun. Last night I did Rathole Radio and it went pretty well I’d say. I’ve just released that today. Thanks to everyone who listened to the live stream and got involved with the chat, votes and other goodness. I’m still getting used to the whole live radio thing but I enjoy it a lot, and I hope perhaps some day I’ll get to do it for a larger audience.
There’s no live Linux Outlaws tonight as Fab is away on a motorbike trip at the moment. We’ll release some content I recorded at EuroPython 2009 which is long overdue, and also add some other stuff to it. You can expect that in a few days time. I recorded some really good interviews with many people at EuroPython, I hope you’ll enjoy them. I’m also planning to install Pardus Linux 2009 tonight and get to work for a review of that in the next week. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of mischief to get myself into, and no doubt more work too. I’ll see you next Sunday (hopefully not late this time) for another Rewind. Till then, take care of yourselves and keep it Open Source 🙂
