About Me

Hi, I’m Dan Lynch, a broadcaster, musician, writer and confirmed geek from Liverpool in the UK. I’m mad about all things Open Source, particularly GNU/Linux but also various web and mobile technologies. I am one of the organisers of Liverpool Linux User Group and we have regular monthly meetings at DOES Liverpool in the city centre.

I’m best known for hosting a number of popular podcasts on technology and music since 2007. Linux Outlaws, Rathole Radio and FLOSS Weekly on the TWiT Network.  You can read more about them on the podcast page. I produce a show called Free As In Freedom for the Software Freedom Conservancy and currently co-host a show called Tales Of The Unattested.

I’ve been a musician since I was young and you can also discover more about that on the music page. I do a bit of programming and web development but not as much as I used to these days. I’m a big fan of Django (the Python web framework) and I do Drupal sometimes working with PHP. I used to work for the NHS (National Health Service) in the UK as a .NET developer. I’ve also had a number of chronic illnesses since about 2004, which meant I had to leave full time work. I’ve since had lots of experimental surgery and treatment but I’m sad to report I don’t have any super powers as a result. You can read all about that on the blog if you’re so inclined but I wouldn’t blame you for giving it a miss.

I’m also known for organising conferences and events, the biggest of which is called OggCamp. A 2 day celebration of all things Open Source mixed with music, politics and all kinds of other things. In 2011 we had 400+ attendees join us from all over the world to talk about FOSS and generally have a good time. In 2012 we surpassed that and had a guest talk from Stephen Fry, yes that Stephen Fry. In addition I’m involved with Ignite Liverpool which has been running since 2010. I am proud to have been a member of the Liverpool MakeFest organising team since it’s inception in 2015.

I wrote a technology column for the website Seven Streets and have done some professional writing on and off over the years.
