Ok, a completely bizarre post for you today, but I just had to share this with everyone. I was sent this in an email by faithful Linux Outlaws listener and friend of the show Les “Quarter” Pounder. It’s a Linux Outlaws Christmas card he’s made up and I think it’s hilarious. He says his photo editing skills aren’t up to much and I’m sure some GIMP gurus could make this more realistic, but you know what? I don’t care. I like it as it is. So here you go, enjoy…

I wanted to share some amusing pictures with you today, but first I’d better start with the back story so it makes some sense. Last year in Liverpool we had little statues all over the city to celebrate the European Capital Of Culture. They were each decorated uniquely by artists, school groups and more, then liberally sprinkled around the place. They were based on what’s known as the Superlambanana, I promise you I’m not making this up. Some time in the late 90′s (I forget the exact year and I’m too lazy to look it up now) the council here commissioned Japanese artist Taro Chiezo to make a new iconic statue for the city, he delivered this…

    Bada Bing

    Bada Bing

Everyone’s favourite technology company Microsoft are making a big attempt to break Google’s monopoly on searching the web. Odd for Microsoft to be fighting against a monopoly you might think, but they’re desperate to claw back some market share. They were slow off the mark where the Internet is concerned and they’ve never really caught up. Their new search engine is called Bing, nothing to do with Bing Crosby I don’t think. Apparently it stands for “Bing Is Not Google”. I wonder if they took the recursive acronym idea from GNU, I hope they didn’t violate the GPL if they did :)

Anyway, my reason for rambling on about this is as an excuse to show you an image I found hilarious. It’s a comparison of searching the term Linux on Google and Bing. The suggestions are a little different. I mean “linux vista” come on? You could try and hide it a little better than that. Nobody is going to trust a search engine with a hidden agenda… but then who’s to say Google don’t have a hidden agenda either I suppose. Got my tin foil conspiracy hat at the ready. I’m not crazy about Google’s monopoly on the web and we’ve talked about it on Linux Outlaws a few times, but they do help Open Source projects and there’s no way I’d prefer Microsoft, sorry Bill.

…someone decides to make a program just to track what you’ve been eating and post it to a Google Calendar :D It seems that’s what the good folks from the Linux Link Tech Show have done. I was told about this a week or so ago, but forgot to mention it. There’s been something of a running joke between the shows that Fab and I post too many pointless messages about food on our microblogs. I thought it was pretty funny, and then I was sent a link to this calendar:

Best Pic Of Them I Could Find

Best Pic Of Them I Could Find

Apparently the guys have made a script that scrapes our food posts from Identi.ca and adds them to the calendar. Madness, but brilliant nontheless. Thanks guys! We love you too ;) I should also take this opportunity to congratulate the guys on their 300th episode, which is coming up next week. They’ve been around since before the dawn of time… ahem, sorry I mean the dawn of podcasting. They are certainly the longest running Linux podcast in the world. Back when we started Linux Outlaws Pat, Dann and the other guys were immediately supportive and promoted us. I’ve never forgotten that and it really helped us onto the podcasting ladder. They’ve expanded their line up of hosts lately and just seem to go from strength to strength. So keep up the good work guys and here’s to another 300 episodes. Pat also recently started a MythTv podcast (a precursor to going solo? Who can say hehehe), check it out if you’re interested in making a Linux media centre or PVR, it’s very cool.

Right, that’s it. Just a quick post as I wanted to share that calendar. I’m also off to see Billy Bragg in Liverpool tonight and I’m ridiculously excited, a musical and political hero of mine. I’ll report back on that on Sunday. I’m also writing this message in KDE4.2 on Chakra Project, more on that very soon.

Take care all,  see you soon

Ok this is a bit silly… actually scratch that, it’s very silly but it made me smile. Besides, I’ve never needed an excuse to be silly. As usual I’m massively behind on my RSS news feeds and while going through a backlog of Lolcatz today I came across this one. It’s Linux related, kinda ;)

    Iz ok

Does Windows 7 come with Kitteh-Butt Login protection huh? I doubt it.

I’m following one jokey picture post directly with another here which seems like a slight blogging faux par. I like to mix things up normally but then you get sent an image like this and all plans go out of the window…

    Me In Rabbit Form?

    Me In Rabbit Form?

It’s from a game called Rayman Raving Rabbits TV Party and was sent to me by Moggers87 on Identi.ca with the words “is this you?”. At first I thought “how preposterous??!!” but the more I look at it the more I have to admit it does look quite like me, right down to the pot belly but I’m not sure the ears are big enough. I don’t remember posing for this photo but then that doesn’t mean anything, I don’t remember what I had for breakfast this morning, where I left my car or what you just said to me either. Here’s an image of me for comparison…

So what do you reckon, do I look like the rabbit??? I’ll hop off and eat some lettace while you ponder that, laters ;)
